Who is Afopefolorun Sanyade?
My first name means "We give thanks to God." A f’ope f’Olorun is a phrase in the Yoruba language that was translated from a hymn titled "Now thank we all our God," and was written by Lutheran pastor Martin Rinkart.
A Short Bio.
I enjoy having conversations with my friends about movies, books, and Anime that explore the topics of suffering, ethnicity, and relationships. I also love playing soccer, watching Anime, drinking bubble tea, and spending quality time with Emily, my fiancée. I am passionate about working with a team of leaders who value excellence in their work and pish each other to actualize their potential. Therefore, I love empowering students to see themselves as leaders capable of global impact.

What Have People Said About Me?
"Afope has an excellent rapport with people of all ages in our community. He is a very kind and humble-hearted individual, who cares about the people around him at a deeper level than anyone I have seen. Being in a multi-ethnic community, Afope easily breaks down cultural barriers and produces authentic friendships with people he meets." - Harman Sharda, Pastor at West Edmonton Christian Assembly from 2017 - 2020

Where I Have Been
I have been able to perform humanitarian and international work all over the world.

Los Angeles
Before my final year in high school, I volunteered with Los Angeles’s Dream Center with a team of diverse high school and university students. We helped the Dream Center provide support to those affected by homelessness, hunger, and the lack of education through residential and community outreach programs, such as mobile food banks, jail outreach, and addictions counselling. We were able to work in neighbourhoods such as Skid Row and cities like Compton.
Northern India
Through Mount Royal University, I studied and worked in India for a month. I received credits in International Community Development and Intercultural Communication, which included staying at an Ashram and our partner university, Lovely Professional University. I received lessons in Yoga, Punjabi & Hindi dancing and experienced cultural visits to The Taj Mahal, The Golden Temple, The mountain city of Dharamsala, The Hindu holy city of Haridwar on the River Ganges, India's historic capital city: New Delhi.
Santiago De Los Caballeros
Through a program at the University of Calgary, I volunteered in the Dominican Republic over my winter reading break. A team of international and domestic university students partnered with an organization called Casas Por Cristo to construct two homes from start to finish for a family in need. The home included three rooms and a front porch with access to electricity and water. Our team also helped alleviate families’ financial burdens by providing monetary and material donations.
Coming Soon
Once the pandemic's restrictions ease and international travel become affordable, I hope to travel to Palestine to learn from an organization that does good work to alleviate the needs of those suffering due to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.
